Dulles Part II - Terminal G - 03.03.06
Our multi-connection tickets take us first to Philadelphia, so we must fly a United Express puddle-jumper. This means we are in Terminal G at Dulles. To get to Terminal G, you walk right past all the big people-mover buses, around a corner, outside to the tarmac, and down a flight of stairs, to a cramped shuttle bus. This bus drives you for 10 long minutes to a corrugated-metal shack on the far reaches of the airport. You are then marched inside to a large and chaotic waiting area. There are at least 12 gates here, all handling short-hop East Coast flights, and the passengers for all those flights are crammed into this one large room. Flights for Charlotte, Jacksonville, and Allentown are called and boarded. We find a relatively quiet corner, sit, and try to breathe deeply and ignore the pandemonium until, finally, they call our number.
