Behind Il Duomo - 05.03.06

The rain has scuttled our plan for a long walk around Florence. We opt instead for the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, which is filled with art reflecting the building and history of Florence's cathedral. We dodge large tour groups and spend extra time taking in Michelangelo's Pietà, one of whose straining figures is actually a self-portrait. It's an impressive piece. But why did he make the hands so big?
