Teatro della Pergola - 06.03.06
Our hotel has given us passes to a classical music concert. Mikhail Pletnev is going to play the piano for us. The Teatro is a lovely old building. We are seated on the floor level, in the center. Before the show we gaze up at the private boxes that line both side walls. How do we get to sit up there, we wonder.
Once the performance begins, I feel out of place. We are not huge classical music fans, and we don't attend any concerts at home. We are here because it seems a classy, Florentine, Renaissance kind of thing to do, not out of any real appreciation for the music. We are poseurs. But it's kind of nice anyway. We are tired enough to leave at intermission, though.
