Gilli - 08.03.06

Stop right there with your Bennifer jokes. We're not talking about the famously terrible movie (whose title you'll note is spelled differently). Gilli is a cafe on the Piazza della Repubblica. It's a really nice day and Gilli is a really nice place to spend three hours eating lunch, drinking some wine, writing postcards, and people-watching. Our waiter, whom we do not like and have nicknamed "Sideburns," is only too happy to leave us alone most of the time to do our thing. We practically have to tackle him to order dessert. The outdoor dining atmosphere is lovely, but the food is nothing special and the cappuccinos cost six euros, so we mark this down as a mere touristy diversion and get on with our Florence mission.
